After decades of commitment supporting the people in Vietnam, we have stopped our work and closed our office in Da Nang. "It is impressive what Malteser teams have achieved and accomplished in Vietnam over the past decades. Since 1966, we have been able to implement more than 60 humanitarian projects and development programs," says Cordula Wasser, Head of the Asia Department at Malteser International.
Malteser International began working in Vietnam in 1966, and provided emergency relief during the war until 1975: treating the sick and wounded. Providing health facilities and fighting poverty amongst the population remained the focus of our work during the period of rebuilding. Since the significant economic development in the country, our priorities shifted to lay an ever greater focus on disaster risk reduction. As a consequence of frequent floods and typhoons, we were often engaged in emergency and disaster relief activities
Our Vietnamese employees have now founded their own relief organization, CAB Vietnam, to continue this work.
