Cologne/Beirut. With the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Malteser International is further expanding medical care for people affected by the war in Lebanon. In addition to the eleven health centers, people are now also receiving medical care directly in the emergency shelters by the staff of the Order of Malta Lebanon. In addition, blankets, towels, hygiene articles and other sanitary materials are being distributed to around 1,000 families who urgently need them and were unable to take them with them when they fled.
"Our colleagues from the Lebanese Order of Malta are currently working at the risk of their lives to provide medical care for the people. The additional support now enables us to provide care to even more people," says Lisa Kramer, Country Coordinator for Lebanon, who was still working in Beirut up until a month ago.
Malteser International has been working with the Lebanese Order of Malta to help people in need in Lebanon since 2012. Malteser International focuses on mobile and stationary health care and on improving the nutritional situation through the operation of agricultural centers.
