Malteser International extends its heartfelt congratulations to its Chaplain and Bishop of Troyes, Monseigneur (Msgr.) Marc Stenger on his election as Co-President of Pax Christi International.
The elections were held at the Annual General Meeting of Pax Christi International on 26 and 27 June 2019, during which Msgr. Stenger and Sr. Teresia Wamuyu Wachira of Kenya were elected to succeed Marie Dennis of the USA and Bishop Kevin Dowling of South Africa, who have served together as co-presidents for the past nine years.
Malteser International’s President Thierry de Beaumont-Beynac said Bishop Stenger brings a wealth of experience to the role. “We most warmly congratulate Msgr. Stenger for his election,” he said. "This important mandate he has received reflects the trust that Pax Christi International have shown in his leadership and deep commitment to the cause of peace, nonviolence, and justice. We would like to offer him our most sincere wishes for a successful term as Co-President.”
Bishop Stenger has been the Bishop of Troyes, France since 1999 and has served as the president of Pax Christi France. He is also a former member of the Commission for the Universal Mission of the Church and was part of the Commission for Pastoral Workers in the French Church. He and Sr. Wachira have been elected on a three-year term and will work closely with the Secretary General and the International Board of Pax Christi International to govern and determine the direction of the movement.
Pax Christi, founded in 1945 as a reconciliation movement to bring French and Germans together after the Second World War, is a global Catholic peace movement working worldwide to establish peace, respect for Human Rights, and justice and reconciliation. Today, the movement has 120 Member Organizations active in more than 50 countries worldwide.
