Cologne/Gaziantep. Following the violent disputes in the coastal region of Syria in recent days, the humanitarian situation is tense. Many people are fleeing. To help the affected families quickly, Malteser International starts emergency relief measures and provides the people with food and medical support. Hospitals receive medicines and 600 families are provided with basic foodstuffs.

“We are currently receiving numerous calls for help from the coastal region of Syria, where many people have been injured and killed in recent days. People have had to leave their homes because they no longer feel safe. We will support these people, just as we have been helping other displaced people in the country for years,” says Lena Schellhammer, Malteser International's Program Manager for Syria and Turkey. For this, Malteser International is working together with local partner organizations.

Malteser International has been supporting people in Syria since 2012, primarily in the health sector. Malteser International has also been providing them with water, hygiene materials and foodstuffs.
