Food security and clean drinking water in Pakistan
In 2022, Pakistan was hit by severe flooding in which 1,700 people died and 33 million lost their belongings. After renewed monsoon rains in 2024, further regions were flooded and around 300 people died (as of September 2024). We are providing emergency aid in the form of emergency shelters, food, hygiene products and cash to support women and children in rural areas who are particularly affected by poverty. In Sindh, we support communities in building wells and toilets, rehabilitating fields and planting vegetable gardens. We also promote disaster risk reduction and the cultivation of climate-resistant and nutrient-rich crops.
Torrential rain and flooding in the summer of 2022 turned into the worst flood disaster in Pakistan's history. The effects are still devastating today. After heavy monsoon rains in 2024, entire regions of Pakistan are once again under water. Around 300 people have died so far (as of September 2024). The provinces in the north and south of Pakistan are particularly affected by renewed flooding. There is a risk of infectious diseases spreading, such as diarrhea, typhoid, cholera, and malaria. Hunger is also a threat. Fields and crops have been destroyed, and livestock has died. Many people have lost their livelihoods and income opportunities. The need for medical care, food, clean drinking water, relief supplies, and shelter is immense.
Our goal is to ensure the survival and alleviate the greatest need of vulnerable families affected by the floods in the provinces of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Through our partners SRSO, DevCon, FRDP and WEO...
